PHOTOGRAPHIC PALIMPSEST

"drucksache", brasil, 2011

"A palimpsest is a manuscript page from a scroll or book from which the text has been scraped off and which can be used again. The word 'palimpsest' comes through Latin palimpsēstus from Ancient Greek παλίμψηστος (palímpsestos, 'scratched or scraped again') originally compounded from πάλιν (palin, 'again') and ψάω (psao, 'I scrape') literally meaning 'scraped clean and used again'."

At the technique of palimpsest I print photos on used paper like old money (without value), maps, graph paper, letters and pages of books. So I want to show how life is fleeting, but also that people move during their life; that people have multiple layers that are placed over old layers. But you can always see the traces of the layers of the past, nothing is forgotten.
