An absurd idea - part 3!

Yes, there is a third possibility to take a photo through another camera.
For this option you need a slr with a pentaprism. You don't need a lens, but I screwed a hollowed lens on the camera.
The little picture you see in the camera, came through the viewfinder and impinged on the mirror.

This picture I've shown in an older post:

DO IT YOURSELF: PINHOLE LENSES

Today I built two pinhole lenses out of two old, damaged M42-lenses.
Yes, "pinhole lenses" is a contradiction, but you know what I mean.

First I cored the two lenses (the glasses must go!), then I put on each lens a lens cap and fixed them. After this I measured the focal lengths and used the pinhole size calculator to determine the diameter of the holes. Later I pricked with a pin the holes in the lens caps.

Now I have two Pinhole-M42-lenses for my M42-slr's!

Focal length: 75mm
Diameter: 0.365mm
fStop: 205
Image circle: 144mm

Original: Revuenon Special 2.8/35mm

Focal length: 55mm
Diameter: 0.313mm
fStop: 176
Image circle: 106mm

An absurd idea - part 2!

Today I shot through the waist-level finder from the Praktica, but it wasn't easier;)

What you need:
_ a camera with a waist-level finder (e.g. Praktica FX2/FX3, Exa 1a/1b/1c, Hasselblad, Kiev 88, Rolleiflex etc.)
_ a slr or dslr
_ a tripod
(_ a mirror)

An absurd idea!

Question: Can I take a photo through another camera?

Answer: Yes, it's complicated, but possible.

How to do:
I took my Canon EOS Rebel XSi and the Praktica F.X 3 and two tripods. The back from the Praktica is removable and the shutter is a little bit rusty, therefore it's easier to shoot through it.
First I focused the Praktica. To focus the second camera, in this case the Rebel XSi, is a little bit complicated. Sometimes the AF doesn't work, but I had time to set the AF-system.

First some making-of pictures:

The picture through another camera:

Yes, it isn't the big hit, but once more a question is solved!

Oh I think it's easier to shoot through the waist-level finder from the Praktica;) Okay, at the next time!

PRAKTIsche CAmera.

Selfs with a Praktica F.X 3 blue, the us-version of the Praktica F.X 2 .

I found this wonderful camera two weeks ago in Joinville, but I didn't have the money to buy it, I rather bought me the book Photo Icons II from TASCHEN and some old 1970s brazilian photo magazines. But today I drove once more to Joinville and bought this incredible camera. At the camera is a Isco Göttingen Westanar 2.8/50mm Version 2. The camera and the lens work, but have some little problems.
The Praktica-strap I bought two years ago at ebay.

War with the Frogs!

Do you read Karel Čapeks "War with the Newts" ("Válka s mlok")?
I read it and today not the newts but the frogs - ok one frog - attacked me - ok not me, but my photography books! I think that frogs are very strange.

You don't believe it? You think this is a joke? Come on, it's the truth! Here is the evidence:

I don't know how and why he was in my room, but I think he is a real mind jacker photographer!
After the photo session I put him in the garden. Hey, I love animals and he isn't only a frog, he's a mind jacker!

The old Standard.

Today I found on a cemetery an old paper. I was very surprised, because I could decipher the name "Eastman Kodak". Of course I picked it up. At home I restored the paper a little bit, because another layer of paper was in various quarters over the Kodak paper.

I found an interesting link, perhaps it is more or less 100 years old. I don't know, but it is a part of the history of photography.

insane camera-lens-combinations part 2

part 1 is here

Today I bought an old Meopta Opemus IIa enlarger with following accessories:

_ Shinker 3.5/75mm Made in Japan
_ Shinker 4.5/105mm Made in Japan
_ Kodak Enlarging Ektar 4.5/75mm Made in USA
_ Schneider Kreuznach Componon 5.6/80mm Made in Germany
_ 2x adapter for the lenses
_ spare lamp
_ Timer from Kohm
_ 2x Ilford Multigrade Filter Kit (one kit is numbered 00-5 in 1/2 steps and the other kit is numbered 1-5 in 1 steps)
_ 2x red-light lamps

But before I'll use the enlarger, I created some insane camera-lens-combinations and made some trails.

First I screwed an Industar 61 2.8/52mm from the FED 4 and a Helios 44 2/58mm from the Zenit 3M/Revueflex on the Meopta, because one of the lens adapter plates has a M39 thread mount (here with the Helios):

Then I screwed the Shinker 4.5/105mm enlargement lens on the Zenit 3M/Revueflex, but it doesn't work, you won't get a sharp picture:

The next combi is the FED 4 with the Shinker 3.5/75mm. And this combi works, it's a real macro. After this I screwed the Shinker 4.5/105mm on the FED and of course this works, too. The only problem is that the FED 4 is a rangefinder and because of this the focussing is a little bit complicated, but no problem for no problem people:

EDIT 19.09.2010:
Today I made some photos with the FED 4 and the both lenses. But before I measured the distance between the lens and the subject to know the right focussing point. I measured from the front part of the lens:
The distance at the Shinker 105mm is 4,6cm to the subject.
The distance at the Shinker 75mm is 2,0cm
to the subject.
To check this, I screwed the both lenses on my Zorki 4. And yes, with the same results.
EDIT 08.11.2010:
I'm sorry, but the field test was unsuccessful. The pictures are all unsharp!
The next combi is just for fun. I put the Kodak Enlarging Ektar 4.5/75mm on the Zorki 4, but the screw mount of the Kodak is a little bit smaller than M39.
It's a great pity, because I wanted a combination of the USSR and the USA that works:

EDIT 27.05.2011:
See here an American-Russian combination thats works!

The next combi is really insane. The combi consists of the Canon EOS Rebel XSi and the Schneider Kreuznach Componon 5.6/80mm + the enlarger adapter plate.
Yes the picture seems like a dazed feeling:

The next picture shows the combination of the Canon EOS Rebel XSi with the Canon EF-S 3.5-5.6/18-55mm IS and the Ilford Multigrade Filter No.5:

At last I put the Ilford Multigrade Filter-System on the Elmarit 2.8/35mm from the Leica R4. In the Leica is an Ilford FP4+ :

The pictures with some of this combis are coming soon!
